Sant'Agata
The Feast of Sant'Agata is the most important religious festival in the city of Catania. It is the third most important religious festival in the world due to the number of people it involves and attracts. It is celebrated in honor of the city's patron saint.

It takes place every year from 3 to 5 February and 17 August. The first date is that of the martyrdom of the Saint from Catania (whose breasts were removed - and it is no coincidence that the Sicilian cassatine are called Saint Agatha's - before being burned on hot coals) while the August date commemorates the return to Catania of his remains, after they had been stolen and taken to Constantinople by the Byzantine general Giorgio Maniace as war booty and where they remained for 86 years.
